Umbwe Route
The steepest, most direct line, for experienced climbers.
Overview
Short, steep and relentless, Umbwe is the most challenging route to Uhuru Peak. The rapid altitude gain leaves little time to acclimatise, so it suits seasoned, very fit climbers with prior high-altitude experience. The reward is genuine solitude and a raw, off-the-beaten-path adventure.
Why climbers love it
- ▲ The steepest and most direct route to the summit
- ▲ Remote and peaceful, with very few other climbers
- ▲ A true test for experienced high-altitude trekkers
- ▲ Joins the scenic Barranco Valley on day two
