Marangu Route

The Coca-Cola Route

The only route with hut accommodation: sleep under a roof.

Overview

The oldest and most established route, and the only one with dormitory-style huts instead of tents. Its gradual incline and communal huts make it the most comfortable way up, and popular with those who prefer a roof over a tent. The shorter profile means acclimatisation matters, so we recommend the 6-day option.

Why climbers love it

  • The only route with sleeping huts, not tents
  • Gentlest, most gradual incline on the mountain
  • Acclimatisation hike to Zebra Rocks and Mawenzi
  • Same final summit path as the Rongai Route

Register and climb through lush rainforest to your first hut, with chances of wildlife.

  4. 4

  5. 5

Kibo → Uhuru Peak → Horombo

A pre-dawn summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), then a long descent back to Horombo.

  6. 6
